It's cute that you think this.
You honestly think guys gossip like women?
Yes they can. I had a male co nanny in my last position. He was the worst in the entire household (4 nannies, 1 chef, 2 housekeepers, 1 Laundress, 1 house manager and a driver/handyman) as far as gossip and backstabbing people. He was also really lazy and basically did the bare minimum to get by.
Was O'Brien the lady's maid? She can be very catty.
I'm not quite sure why you thiink this person is lying. There are jobs in the United States in high profile or high net worth homes that have full staffs. I've worked in a team of nannies similar to what this person described.

Can we get some examples?
Oh there are lots, but here are a few-
Was almost never on time to start his shift. I understand traffic can be bad, but you would think you would readjust your schedule after you were late the first 5 times.
Letting the children watch TV and/or be on their iPads for hours straight because it was easier than interacting with them. When I say hours, I mean 6-8 hours a day when he was working.
Never getting homework done with the children, particularly if it was a project like a book report that was supposed to be worked on for a few days. Basically someone else always had to be on top of homework because if this person was working, it didn't get done.
Not keeping the nanny log that we were all supposed to keep as it was one of the key ways that the parents and school kept up with what was going on with the kids. On the days that he worked he would just leave it blank because "he was so busy and didn't have time".
Inability to pack for the kids when going on vacation. The one time he did pack he forgot several things and then blamed it on the rest of us, which was really fun.
Never played with the kids unless it was a computer or iPad game. Ask him to take them to the playground or swimming and he would roll his eyes at you.
Would never restock children's snacks/drinks. Extras were kept in the garage, so I guess it was too much trouble for him to walk out there![]()
I know none of these things are huge, but it was just everything with this guy. Just one of those people who did the bare minimum to get by and expected everyone else to cover and pick up the slack.
So why did they keep him? Surely one of the many staff would inform them he was not good at his job.
So, if one male nanny is bad they are all bad?
I'm a bit offended by that.
. The boys did like him, but who wouldn't like someone who let you play on your iPad all day and never made you do your homework? Honestly I'm not sure, it was a high stress job that I didn't exactly understand what I was getting into when I accepted the position. I stuck it out for a year for the reference and salary but left almost a year to the day I started. There was a lot of turmoil and turnover in this household while I was there with the staff due to a lot of circumstances, so it could have simply been because he was willing to stay.
. I don't make sweeping generalizations about groups of people based on gender, race, religion, etc.... I think a family should interview and choose the best nanny for their family and if that nanny is a guy then that's great! Basically like every nanny I see at the park. If I ever see an adult really playing with a kid on the playground, up on the equipment, chasing, etc it's a guy (nanny or dad, I don't know). That is why I decided to find a guy. I'm tired of paying $20 an hour for someone to walk my kids to the park and then sit for 2 hours while they play with others.
How old are your kids? I always think it's weird when parents are up on the equipment with school age kids etc, because shouldn't their kids know how to navigate the social scene of a playground without a parent holding their hand?
