I really hate when people have an ad out for say two kids, like a 3 and 7 year old and then they point out the 7 year old is "pretty much self sufficient and doesn't need care" and just want to pay you a 1 child rate.

That 7 year old will want more attention than the 3 year old. I guarantee it.

$10 is fine for a person with this level of experience. However I would not hire them as a nanny maybe as a mother's helper or a date night sitter no way would I hire them 8 or more hours a day solo.

Seconding a pp w/ a nanny who thinks I'm her personal emergency fund for any expenses.

Our nanny is a fantastic nanny but she's not so great at adult life management skills like budgeting. I'm pretty tired of feeling responsible for her at a level that goes well beyond a professional relationship.

The PP was asserting that she was certainly more educated than anyone responding to her. I was curious as to the extent of her education.

Giving up a Saturday... the three hours you MIGHT remember to let me off early for doesn't equal a day off

All over the mid-west and mid north-west the going rate for an adult babysitter or nanny is in the <$10 range. $5 an hour is not uncommon.

None of the above. Just an experienced nanny who is sick of all of the entitled brats that post threads about how above everyone else they are, and how DARE anyone presume to pay them such meager rates..oh yeah and all of the people that do are insulting the entire nannying profession. $10/hr is a perfectly reasonable rate for certain positions and many of you could do with a little humility; realize that in plenty of other professions you would be making a lot less (especially given the fact that most nannies have no real credentials or relevant education).
If you don't want to take a job paying $10/hr, DON'T TAKE IT! Why accept a position just to turn around and bitch about how little you are being paid?


Nanny of this post - you and I would get along. And I'm sure I would consider you worthy of being paid well more than $10/hr.
