Eh, these people aren't going to change. They are pigs. It's too bad the dogs are living in these conditions in the yard, but you aren't going to change them. So look for another job, make sure it's with a family who doesn't have a dog, and give notice. And when I gave notice, I would be honest - I really enjoy your child, but the unsanitary back yard that we couldn't use, your unruly young dog that you didn't tell me about when you hired me, and the extra work I have to do cleaning up poop all over the house are the reasons I am leaving.

This. While they shouldn't brush these things off like it's not a big deal it also sounds like you haven't told them that it IS a big deal to you. FWIW I'm terrible with confrontation and hate it as well but you need to just be honest and tell them this isn't acceptable for you.
