It is nice for many nannies that they are financially sound enough to be able to turn down jobs that do not offer to pay legally. Unfortunately (and we should all know this by now), this is not the case for many of the individuals in this field. If an employer says they pay cash, and you insist on being paid on the books, it's highly likely that you aren't getting the job. That is just too much of a risk for many people to take.

This is garbage. It isn't "nice" to follow the law. It's essential. Stop being whiny and ridiculous.

Nannies here complain all the time about low market rates. This is why. Nannies who are paid off the books drive down wages. It isn't mean old MBs who won't pay above market rates. It's the illegal nannies.

Frankly, I hope very nanny paid under the table and every family who pays under the table are caught and suffer the consequences for breaking the law.

Interesting that you chose to omit the last part.
Clearly you have never struggled or known anyone who has, you could benefit from some insight into the lives of the less fortunate.

The only whiny one here is you, PP. When your wages are "driven down" to below $15/hr ON AVERAGE you can start complaining. Until then, have some humility and realize that you are still being paid VERY well for what, essentially, amounts to unskilled, unregulated labor.
