What, they just sit there? I read while my charges independent play. And yes, I can keep an eye on them and read at the same time.

Or you could prep lunch/dinner , fold the kid's laundry, or get craft projects ready.

Kids are older so we make lunch together. MB requested that kids fold their own laundry and we also prep for crafts together and the kids love to do that.

Clean up from meals. Organize toys/ clothing, plan or the net day's outings etc etc.

Oh lordy, here we go again with the I hate Nanny Care Tribe slew of posters.

Go away ! Stop trying to cause drama no one cares about your precious group.

I do think parents should be aware there are many Facebook groups were posting of pictures and other personal information happens. I think it's a fair interview question for parents to know what groups their nanny belongs to and to make it part of the agreement that the nanny doesn't post photos or share personal info about the family, or back on topic not use electronics for personal activities while the children are awake. It's about professionalism.

I think you request is reasonable you don't care if she's on the computer when the kids nap.

Just make it clear that personal electronic use is to be restricted to that period of time.

And the nannies in these groups spend lots of the hours you are paying for posting

Don't bother poster is probably one of those nannies whose charges probably have many many "independent play periods" through out the day plus a 2-4 hour nap period each day, proabbly reuses to t do anything around the house and feels entitled to $35/ hour so she can brag about what an awesome nanny she is on her favorite facebook group.

It would bother me if she posted a lot during non-naptimes. If it were one or two times, then I wouldn't care. But if it were a lot of things, I wouldn't be too happy.

How old are your children? Because perhaps she is doing these postings during independent play? I mean, you do not expect her to just play play play ALL darn day w/your children do you? Not even us parents do that! There are some times when she will be relaxing on the sofa while your children are nearby either watching a show or working on a puzzle. Or perhaps they are in the bathroom.

I would be pissed if she posted that she was somewhere doing something illicit while caring for my child, however. Big No No!!!!

It bothers me a lot less than hypocritical MBs who post on DCUM when they are, presumably, not on a break at work either.

Don't presume you know when anyone else's breaks are. Very rude.

Yes. I'm sure you wouln't want your boss to know you ignore her kids while you post your status updates.

I think OP has good reasoned to be concerned.

There are obviously enough time stamps that OP is concerned and rightfully so.

Personally, I don't think the nanny should be on the computer during awake time. period.

The nanny is being paid to provide a service caring for the kids not playing at her computer all day.

If the nanny needs so many "independent play" breaks perhaps she should not be caring for kids.

OP, I would suggest if you can to make random pop ins at home to see what your nanny is actually up to, and maybe even a nanny cam.
