You will get used to getting them all out of the house, OP! You will need to be very organized, but that's true for all mothers of twins - backpacks/diaper bags packed night before, clothing laid out night before, each parent does specific task like in the army, and you're out the door. You and husband take showers at night so you don't need to deal with that in the morning, you have your clothing chosen so you aren't figuring out what you can wear that doesn't need ironing, the specific shirt/tie/blouse that isn't back from the cleaners/out of the laundry, etc.

Since you take them to the family childcare provider you have been using for your older, you know you can store a huge pack of diapers and wipes plus extra clothing there (probably can, right?) or otherwise you'll always have those things packed in the trunk of your car so if your provider needs that, you don't have to remember in the morning.

You can do this, especially because you have 6 months to get your own patter of caring for twins and a 2 yr old down to a reasonable system. And your provider will love caring for the twins and older sib!

Yes, not having to pack and get kids out of the door is a benefit to a nanny, but all your other concerns are the negatives, so you'll figure it all out.

There are plenty times where I had to manage 10 two year olds in my class by myself when my assistant teacher called in sick. Until they found a substitute to help.Yes I took care of them in a pinch but would I do it every day heck nooooooo. If the mom wants to put them all in a day care setting she shouldn't be beat up about her decision!

OP here. Thank you all for the feedback. It sounds like our best bet is probably to stick with daycare. We really can't afford much more than 42K, and with taxes that means the nanny's salary would be even a little less than that. We are in the DC area, and it sounds like most experienced nannies wouldn't take the job for that salary around here. I understand, I wouldn't either!

It isn't impossible but she needs a ton of experience I've nannied for 20 years and have handled this type of situation. But with experience usually comes a higher price tag. I know for me there is no way I could/would do it for 42k in the DC area.

Should say older one and babies. OP it's not impossible to find. My only suggestion to you shoul you decide to hire a nanny would be to have the nanny come in during your maternity leave so everyone can get familiar with one another.

What does your salary have to do with the question? Taking care of three the same age isn't the problem, I guess it depends on the two year old. All of my toddlers thrived on being taught. Personally at a certain age I love to take them to the library, zoo, picnics, puppet shows, museums etc. How do you accomplish this with infant twins who need tons of sleep?

Absolutely can find an experienced nanny to do this job. I currently care for almost 2 year triplets and have been with them since they were 4 weeks old. Prior to this job I cared for a 2 year old and newborn twins. Both jobs are busy, but so much fun.

Look into the Valco double strollers with a joey seat attachment. It's the perfect stroller for baby twins and a toddler.

I get paid a lot more than 42K though, but that depends on where you live.
