I would just have a chat with her reminding her not to text while the kids are awake.
Yes, if the nanny has realized the mistake she is probably embarrassed, but if MB has discussed with nanny not to text while kids are awake, then MB has a right to bring this up to her again.
This is 2014, EVERYONE (who isn't elderly) texts before, during and after work. Get over it.
NOW, if the texting is excessive then that's when it becomes a problem. Ask your children (if they're school aged) to get an idea.
Not EVERYONE texts all the time. Get over yourself and start having some self control. I'm sure the judge in the courtroom has no problem with the jury texting during a trial. The teacher who is with her class does not text away while she has students with her, the bus driver taking children to and from school is not texting (unless you have a bad bus driver), and the policeman is not sending his girlfriend a text when he is in the middle of an arrest. And I have to say the guy at McDonalds has never texted while taking my order.
MB only caught one accidental text. Who knows who else the nanny is texting during the day. Yes, I get that some of you girls grew up with this technology and think it is ok to do, but it isn't professional to be texting while working. You want to be taken seriously as a nanny, start acting like professionals.
Sure hope you weren't working at 9:20 when you sent that!
NP here. To reply to the above:
The teacher absolutely texts while on her lunch break. She might even have the phone nearby if her students are taking a test. The bus driver? If he's parked waiting for kids to get out of school, he could most certainly text or call. The policeman? Hilarious. I know plenty who text while at work if it's slow. Firemen too.

All kidding aside, I wouldn't worry about it.
So what if she sends her S/O a text saying she misses him/her?? I bet that sending that text took less than a minute....No...Less than half a minute to write AND send combined!!
Let it go....

I don't often WK for the snotty nannies here, but are you seriously suggesting that sending a text while the children are awake is in any way detracting from their care? A short text like the one given, sent in a hurry? Of course the nanny texts while the children are awake, the point is that she not have texting conversations ( which are distracting). This was hardly an invitation to talk, though.
It starts with one text. Who knows who else she was texting. I'm sure MB is not paying the nanny to text all day. No one is saying the nanny can't communicate during the day, but surely the nanny can wait until the kids are napping to send out texts.
