I doubt she has games for children installed on her iPad. She probably doesn't want then going into her email or messing up the settings.

Why do they have a right to her iPad? If it's a problem, ask her to hide it.

I would NOT allow my charges to use my IPAD either. Your sitter is not being unreasonable. They are very expensive and I had to work very long hours taking care of children to afford it.
Your children need to learn about other people's private property and when "no" means "no". We had a sitter growing up who wouldn't let my sister or I use her hairbrush or ever let us slip our feet into her shoes - my mother thought it was odd (so she told us later) but when we were young my mother told us to respect other people's wishes regarding their personal property and my mother never let on that she thought the sitter was weird.

If she only brings it out when the kids are in bed, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I don't have an iPad as I'm not a gadgety girl but I have an iPhone. My charges have asked to use it and I of course say no. It's my personal property that I need to communicate. My only source of a phone or computer. If it gets lost or damaged I have a serious problem.

I can't imagine my boss wanting to me hand over my life line to her children.

If it were my children, I wouldn't want them using someone else's iPad.

This is a very expensive item and if they were to accidentally drop it and break the screen, etc., I wouldn't want to have that expense on my back. For me, it would be best for them just not to touch it.

But if it really means that much to you, can't you just purchase them one? Even a used one?

I think your sitter is just being practical.
She probably knows that it would be super awkward if one of your kids damaged it + she would have to come to you and seek damages for repairs.

She doesn't want to have you guys be put in such an awkward position so she's erring on the side of caution.

I say she's a smart lady.
