Our nanny babysits on the side and I never gave it a second thought. I kind of assume that everyone does.

I made this mistake in my current job in mentioning that I work for someone else for eight hours total, three evenings a week which is why I couldn't stay later than my agreed schedule on those three days. Now, they bring up ALL the time - how difficult it is for them to always get home right at the prescribed time (I give them 20 minutes leeway). I cannot make ends even come close to meeting without this second job and it's not as if my full time employers can afford to pay me more.

NEVER tell them. They have no right to know what you do in your off-hours anyway.

This. Boundaries are essential, ladies.

This has been my experience as well. I mentioned that I had a second job once as the reason I couldn't work late on only two nights a week and every time they come home on time on these two nights they complain about how hard it was! I get to their house five days a week on time and they think getting home on two nights without being late is a hardship for them?!

Never tell them.
