MB here. I would have no problem with our nanny working out while the kids are napping. Assuming she gets her job done, and actaully WANTS to be exercising rather than relaxing, that's fine with me.

I want a happy nanny - so whatever works for her works for me generally.

I'd be napping though!

MB here. I don't see the issue so long as your desire to work out overrides taking care of your charges (I.e if one kid is having a tough time going down for a nap, you don't try to rush through getting him to go to sleep so you have time to work out). Also so long as you are fine going out and about if you're gross and sweaty and don't have time to change/shower ( I have a few friends who are like this).

DS' nanny can do whatever she wants during down time so long as the kids remain her number one priority and the minimal child related duties are done.

MB here. You should NOT do it. It's not ok. It's you work not personal gym.

If you're otherwise allowed to have downtime or a break during the day, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to exercise during it.

How about just ask your MB?

OP here. I am curious whether other people work 11 hour days who say they go to the gym - not those who said they wouldn't do it at all. My day gets even longer if MB gets stuck in traffic. If I worked 8 or even 9 hours then it would be simple to work out in my off time.

I suppose I see this as a give and take. NF could not find a daycare anywhere that would keep a child during the hours I work which often includes late nights or early morning when they are traveling. Many nannies have told me they would not want to do the hours I work. I know that I am providing something they could not easily replace. It seems like a small thing to ask that I have my down time to myself considering that I can't serve this family and also get to the gym. Seems like a small way to support my hard work.

Still, I have never done it. I don't know anyone who does. Probably because this is my first time working a crazy schedule.

I'm not the PP you responded to, but as far as I can tell there is just one MB who regularly posts about her manny. The name is slightly offensive, but whatever. She says that is what he calls himself. What I find more offensive is that poster's general attitude about everything. She is quite selfish and doesn't treat her employee very well at all. She can usually be counted on to co sign any terrible behavior any MBs come on to ask about, and to denigrate any nanny who doesn't serve her employer's every need or whim. The manny thing is just something that identifies her and makes her easy to pick on.

I'm kind of torn about the term because on one hand I think it is stupid, nanny itself doesn't mean female, but on the flip side when you say nanny 100% of the people in the US first think of a female. So I like having the distinction, because at least as far as this board is concerned, and with the issues that are raised here, I think it's nice to know if the poster is discussing a male or female nanny.

This board just has a disdain for male nannies anyways which kind of gets in the way of any discussion.
