Well I know someone who got in an accident because they were texting at a red light. Looked up, saw light was green, and gunned it. Didn't realize that the person across from him took delayed going at the green to mean he could turn left. Luckily neither car was traveling at a high speed and injuries/damages were minimal. Do many people text without getting in accidents? Yes? Is the percentage of those who don't get in accidents higher than those who do? Yes. However id have a hard time living with myself if I caused serious damage to someone else because I was texting and driving. Just don't feel like the risk and possible effects are worth it

Thanks for this post. Driving any vehicle also means thinking of your own and your passengers' safety. Laws on on cash advance driving while texting must be strictly implemented in all states to avoid vehicular accidents.

I fired a nanny for texting too much, including texting while driving my kids. After several warnings and nanny saying she NEVER texts and drives (my observations were not like that, She had FB posts right when she was in traffic on her way from work, and both my 6 and 4 y.o. said she did that with them in the car). I did not have 100% physical evidence that she did that when driving my kids, so I'm stuck paying higher unemployment insurance. I do feel my kids are safer though

Why? If I here a text come in I do not look at it if I'm driving! If I pull to a stoplight, I'll look at the text. If I need to respond I will start, but certainly not finish while moving. I legitimately don't understand the problem here.

I don't know if I was using Siri or what, but I certainly know the difference between here and hear!!! Sorry about that.

I would never use any form of communication while driving, no talking, texting, Siri, etc., but I cannot imagine why reading and possibly responding to a text at a red light would be problematic, as long as you are still paying attention to what is going on around you.

Because when you are at a stoplight, you still need to be alert. And not just because you don't want to be the idiot who is not paying attention when the light is turning green. I can't tell you how many people I have seen look up from a phone and then immediately step on the gas in response to a green light, not noticing the person in the crosswalk, the fire engine barreling across the intersection, etc. Not to mention other traffic that might be coming toward you that you might need to try to avoid.
