I am not religious but I know many Christians who would never suggest that children raised outside of that single faith will burn in hell...incidentally they are also very educated and articulate people (on the whole). +1. Even some of the strongest Christians I know would never suggest anyone would burn in he'll for not sharing their religious beliefs. Only the most ignorant who have no understanding of other beliefs are so intolerant.

I believe most will burn in hell. Very few will make it to heaven. I worry everyday that I will burn. It's why I have chosen to not have children, it's too risky. The thought of my child on fire forever is more then I could take. If you don't believe in God how do you get to heaven? The opposite is hell.

OP, I'm an MB. I would not be ok w/ this, but if you like her otherwise then I would suggest you tell her that you would rather she not read the Bible, but "here are some books we'd love to have you read to the baby". Give her other options if you want to keep her in your rotation.

If you're just too uncomfortable then don't use her anymore.

I wouldn't make an unpleasant scene about it, unless you had expressly addressed the issue before and she's ignoring your direction.

I have addressed this issue when hiring a nanny - we will provide any religious instruction to our kids, not the nanny.

How am I a fake Christian? You don't think it hurts my heart to see the children I take care of who come from none believers and know that they probably won't be saved, they probably will burn in hell. It sickens me because I care so deeply. So yes I try to work for Christians. And I don't talk about religion with my charges unless asked. I give my beliefs. It's never been a problem. As I said before I have never read the bible to the children I take care of. But yes working for a family who wasn't ok with that or wasn't ok with the bible in general would hurt me and is not a good fit.

Not the OP but yes - I would fire someone over this. It's proselytizing religion and stunningly presumptive. How would you feel if you came home and saw the sitter reading the Koran to your kids?

You nannies don't get asked about your religion in the interview process? Maybe it's just me as a live in but I get asked usually, not always. Mostly I've worked for Catholics which is not my religion. I am a Christian, although I think Catholics are Christian as well. But Jewish I've never worked for and choose not to. When you live with the families it's just different. Religion comes up, some pray before meals some dont. I say a prayer before every meal that is not from my religion but I can't just not say it infront of the children. If this family was Muslim I think that might be a problem for me.

As both a nanny and a mother, I think it was wrong and presumptuous for your nanny to do this.

Is she from a Latin culture? The reason I am asking this is because some cultures do not separate religion and politics as evenly as we do here in the U.S. so you may not want to jump to conclusions here. She may just be doing what they do in her culture and if that is the case, then she cannot be faulted for it.

Just let her know how you feel and if she continues the behavior, THEN she is wrong.


However, if she is of our culture, then by all means, she should have the commons sense to know better without being told.
I still would talk to her and ask her to refrain from doing this in the future, but it wouldn't be a deal-breaker where I would give her her walking papers.
