OP, yes I would talk to her about this. If she wants the privacy to get trashed whenever she feels like it and potentially get taken advantage of, raped, killed, kill someone else or whatever, then she needs to rent her own apartment. When you are a live in nanny you lose the right to privacy.

I'm hoping this is a troll post. I'm an MB, by the way. Her actions affected your life not in the least, and it's none of your business what she does in her off-hours. If she's showing up sloppy drunk at 3pm and falling all over your kids while they're playing, that's one thing. If she's showing up drunk or hungover for work, sure. But she takes a cab home, goes straight to bed, and sleeps in a bit? I can't fathom why you think this would be any of your business. And knocking on her door at 9am is ridiculous, whether she came home late the night before or not. Presumably if she needed something, she could go to the store herself or let you know another time. Leave her alone when she's off duty. Very strange that you would think this was an issue and respond the way you did (yes, passive aggressively).

You have zero legal right to monitor her consumption. Get a life.

Before she moved in, was drinking addressed? If not, then at this stage it may be too late to tell her she is not allowed to drink.

As long as she is not drinking on the job or showing up to work inebriated then it shouldn't affect the children. I mean, she has a right to a personal life. All work and no play will make her one miserable person in general and you do not want a miserable person caring for your kids, do you?

Plus, I think she should be able to sleep in on her days off as long as she wants to.

I am not a live~in, and on my days off I have been known to sleep in waay later than 11AM!!

I am a fabulous nanny. I am well educated (Elementary Ed. BA degree and certification) and I take pride in the work I do. That being said, I can happily polish off a bottle of wine all by myself on my night off. I am an adult, it doesn't change my abilities as an employee and it certainty isn't any of my employers business. IF I was a live in I would still expect the same privacy and respect for my personal life and the legal adult things that I choose to do on my weekends. Unless you think she has a problem and you can see it reflecting on her ability to be a good nanny, I would relax and let her do the same.

MB here. OP, you don't have an issue with your nanny. Frankly, she sounds pretty responsible, taking a cab home, not being visibly drunk, and not disturbing your household or children at 2am.

PPs are correct. Her time off is her own and is not your business. Don't embarrass yourself by talking to her about this. It isn't a problem.
