I think you are a troll, but to be clear, trying to open a password protected document IS snooping.

Funny how details keep emerging every time you post, OP. You are very impressed with yourself. But you are very definitely a snoop and I think if you're stressed out because you snooped where you shouldn't have, you deserve it.

First, you say the document was password protected, then you claim it was the first page when you opened the computer. This doesn't make sense, so you may be a troll. But if this is a true story, the family you work for would probably be better off if you looked for a new job. No one likes to think that an employee they trust with their children snoops and lies.

The parents might be looking for additional help. After hiring a fabulous full time nanny that we were and are thrilled with, we realized we needed more help. So, at different times, I did a search for an evening nanny to work from 5:30-8:30 a couple times a week and a Saturday nanny to do a few hours each week.

Also, OP, do you work full or part time? If you work part time with school-aged kids, the parents might need additional coverage this summer.

"Maybe they were looking into back up care. "

this was my thought too. they realized they need a back-up plan for when you are sick/out.

In the midst of it, I found a document that says " Nanny search" which was made late Monday evening. It was password protected so I couldn't see the contents. I took that as they were looking to replace me. Yesterday and today, MB has been fine and even referenced and talked about future play-dates I can take their daughter to.

I wont come right out and ask, but I am very confused. Why are they searching for a nanny but then starts talking about future care regarding me? I am very concerned and want to start searching ASAP but don't want to jump the gun. I feel very strange knowing they might be replacing me. I was late one time but that was it. Never had an issues ( none that they spoke upon). They aren't the quite type either.

I would love responses from parents, first and foremost. Does it sound like they are looking and how do I proceed?

You shouldn't go snooping in their documents. You should be fired.

+1000 Snooping, even if they allowed you access to their computer, is a MAJOR breach of trust. If I found out, you would be gone that very second. Seriously, I can't believe you would admit to that, even on an anonymous forum. Bad move.

Several posters have given you suggestions on how to handle the situation. It seems like you are digging because you aren't getting the answer you were looking for.

Yup.

OP, you will create the exact scenario you're worrying about if you can't get out of your own way.

Agree. OP, we've given you some suggestions. Sounds like you just want someone to say "yes, start looking - you'll be fired shortly." Unfortunately, no one can know, can they? But the best course of action is to set aside your worry, and be a professional - ask for a performance review and indicate your willingness to take constructive feedback such that you can perform better on the job. If they're upset about something, hopefully they'll tell you.

+1. act as a professional. ask for a short meeting to discuss these first three months and have their feedback, how is going for the family, what they would like to change, how you can improve, and obviously what you think about the job and what suggestions you may have for the family. be professional and upbeat. I would never, ever mention your fears and where they come from. they may fire you if they think you looked in their computer. you say the document was right there, but you know it was password protected, the date it was created, a little too many details for a quick glance (which should be the most you do when you borrow somebody else's computer to print your stuff)

I wasn't snooping. I'd never for that. The document was right in the computer as I opened it. It was the page that showed when I opened the computer. I was snooping.

Freudian slip? Its okay OP. Everyone poops and everyone snoops.
