If you called her references, what would that accomplish?? Nothing at all! They will just say, "Oh well...sorry.." It's not like it will tarnish her standing with them as long as she didn't leave them in the lurch.

As for leaving a review on Care.com, you can do that to warn other potential families about her.

I want to ask you a non~judgmental question first.
As a nanny who has left a few families in the past, have you done anything at all to warrant her leaving you? Low pay, not paying on time, giving her too many chores, lack of respect? Try to see how you treated her as your employer and see if there is anything that possibly could have made her leave so suddenly.

I do not know your situation so I am only grasping at straws here.

Anyway, I am sorry for your loss and I do hope you find someone reliable soon.

It is a really crappy situation and you guys are burdened. But give her the benefit of the doubt because you really don't know and just move on. God forbid you do anything to screw up her reputation and she is telling get the truth.

Of course - but what does that have to do with calling the nanny's references?! I think OP should post an honest review of the nanny's performance that would have to include her abrupt departure but to call the references the nanny gave the family when she applied for the job is simply spiteful.

I think you're related to my former employers op. I gave them 2 weeks notice when the care they had lined up fell through they called me and made it sound like it was my problem. I told them I was working pt for a former family until my new ft position started. They called my references and asked each one if I was working for them in the upcoming weeks. Let me tell you my boss and I laughed and joked about it

The people who act as references for me are people I have known and worked for for many, many years.
We have great, friendly relationships. If you called them to gripe about me, they would probably call to warn me about the unhinged ex-boss who is calling people to ruin my reputation. They would absolutely not take you seriously.
