OP, where are you? I'm in the SE as well and we didn't get shit in the way of snow today. We've also knows this storm was coming all week...why didn't you discuss with your MB earlier?

If it seems calm later today you can say, "I was worried you were upset that I picked up -- early, I just wanted you to know I was just trying to be safe and drive less today because of the weather, it's not something I have done before. I'm sorry, I'll make sure to check in with you first next time."

You had the best interest of her child and if she is mad aboutt this, then she is crazy and you need to start looking for a new job. She should be gtaydful.

It's possible that your MB was looking forward to having the chance to catch up on some sleep in a quiet house, knowing that the schools would probably be closed this week. Perhaps work has been very stressful and/or she has a headache/feels unwell. I have never been able to sleep when I can hear my children's voices. I wouldn't bring it up again today.

can you tell us specifically what she said that makes you say she is "furious"? What were her actual words and actions that led you to believe she is furious?

Honestly I have no earthly idea why MB would be mad about this unless there was something special at school today the kid missed out on. I can understand being mad in the opposite situation where a nanny would leave the kid longer a school than needed. But not if she picks up early from preschool. Just weird.

If my nanny did this, I would not be upset. I may have wanted a call first, but honestly if the snow was that bad that I had to leave work early, then I probably would have picked up the phone and let the nanny know, hey I'm coming home early, why don't you get ready to head home early too. If she knew there was serious snow and had a specific idea about how it should be handled, she should have called. I would have, at least, if I were your boss. I mean, there's a certain amount of discretion you have to allow for in the moment decisions, like when there's crazy weather or a murderer out in the streets like we had in my neighborhood last week - I'd expect the nanny to use her judgment re: preschool pick ups and whether play dates can go on as normal or need to be canceled.

I think you probably surprised her with the kids, and she reacted badly (if she's napping, maybe she's not feeling well?).

My only other thought is that she thinks you do this all the time so you don't have to go back out. From the rest of your posts, though, that doesn't sound likely.

I agree OP - I think you're overreacting.

It sounds like you are completely overreacting and that your boss is not at all mad at you. Go do some calming exercises or something.

+1 In general, how is she as a boss? Does she usually get upset/angry about other issues or does she generally talk to you rationally? If it's never been a problem for you to pick him up early before and she isn't one who usually gets angry then I would say you are definitely overreacting.

I would say she's a pretty great MB. There haven't really been any issues come up over the last year and a half, this uncertainty of if I did the right thing is very new to me, which is making it exponentially worse in my head.
