900/ week is very very reasonable - if not generous - if you are in the DC area. (I'm a nanny share mom.)

I am a nanny and I have never backed out on a job once I accepted the offer nor have any of the other nannies I know. Giving notice after only a few weeks of working, however, does happen. Sometimes the fit is just not right or the dreaded "creeping" begins. I have never been in a share and would not want to be but I do know some nannies enjoy being part of one. Good luck! I'm a Nanny. Never worked for a Nanny Share but I heard from other Nannies that hourly/rate goes from $18.00 to $25.00 (for 2 kids). The reason I never accepted a Nanny Share is that (in every case) I didn't like one of the moms and I rather to work with nice moms.

Take heart, keep looking. It should be easier to find care without the added concerns of a share. It will still take time, good nannies will usually have a transition time (2 weeks notice for family they are leaving) and even trial peroid, before they can come in full-time. If your really in a pinch hire an agency, they can send a temp asap, and streamline the interview process for you. It will cost more, but it should be way less work for you, plus they will have legal, educated, & professional nannies to choose from.

Op we were having hour+ long interviews with candidates and for us, it was becoming a bit much. We discussed just finding care for our own child and hopefully turning it into a share. After the second one backed out we wanted to dissolve it and start over but luckily they brought it up first.

What happened? Did the other family decide the share just wasn't going to work b/c you couldn't find a nanny?

And to the PP who agreed to a job in person that she wasn't sure she wanted, wtf? Just say, "Thank you, let me get back to you by (pick a day)." Don't leave people thinking they have a nanny when they don't!

Op here. Interviewing for a few positions is different than taking a job and then backing out IMO

The job sounds wonderful, I don't get it either! You could try politely asking the candidates who have pulled out that there are no hard feelings but you would just love to know why they pulled out because you're having a hard time finding someone. Are the hours very long? I will admit I recently interviewed for a job and was hired on the spot, but even tho I agreed to it it was only because I didn't want to lose the opportunity and hate telling people no that won't work for me, thanks anyway in person, plus I wanted time to think it over before deciding.
