Thanks everyone for your replies. OP here
In response to some of PP questions - it's not just about the money but attitude as well. I have heard things such as "I owe $XX to Y credit card. Pay for me as it is hard to do on my income" or "Do my taxes this year. It should be pretty simple for you" Our nanny came to U.S. a while ago but always worked under the table before us. I was actually amazed when I learned that her previous family where MB works for department of state paid her under the table. Even though we agreed on being on the books our nanny is unhappy about having to pay taxes. unfortunately, she is not financially savvy and frequently gets into financial trouble. I do not mind helping even but I do not care much for the attitude. I believe she should not be demanding. I feel that we pay her well ($45K/year on the books) give 4 weeks paid time off and help her out with her various issues. I am feeling awful about this situation as I think it will be hard for her to find another deal like she has with us as she does not drive, not really computer literate and speaks very broken English. However, our family is reaching a breaking point
thanks for the useful advice on how to go about this. I offered her a day off tomorrow due to the snow storm and will be having a conversation with her on Friday
