Another MB here. I was surprised the PT nanny brought gifts for my kids. Mostly because I'm new to being a MB, but also because she doesn't have much money so I'd rather she spend her hard earned money on her family. This stuff makes me uncomfortable because I never know who is going to give gifts or expect gifts. So many people spend way above their means when the sentiment is what counts.

OP, no need to buy a gift. I absolutely do not expect a gift from our nanny. One thing our nanny has done for a lot of holidays is helped our own kids make cards for us and the grandparents---with paint, glitter, etc. One year for mother's day she helped them make a kind of poster with pictures, drawings, etc. I treasure those more than anything.

I had a "photo shoot" with the kids and ended up buying a nice $20 frame to put the pictures in and also got some nice chocolates. Spent $30 total on MB/DB and I know they aren't going to expect anything but I love them and I know they will appreciate it.

I don't want/expect a gift from my nanny. She did get gifts for the kids though (also not expected).

I don't want a gift from my nanny. Gifts should go down the ladder, not up.

Anything is fine, but just don't go absolutely empty handed.
