Subject: Time off for Grampas funeral?
I do not think it is weird at all. Life happens...and so does death.
Considering your Grandpa is already in a hospice pretty much means he is terminal. It is only a matter of time from this point on.
I would mention this to your bosses ASAP and let them know that when your Grandpa passes, you will need to take a few days off for it.
I am sure they will understand.
If they gripe about it, then you are working for the wrong people.
By the way OP, I am very sorry about your Grandpa.

Does anyone actually pronounce it "graNDpa"? I have always, always said graMpa, and thus spell it like that. OP, wishing you the best. Crazy spelling poster, wishing you bird poo on your head.

OP I was in the situation twice unfortunately in my last nanny position. I started the job in October, and my maternal grandfather passed away in November. I had to take 5 days off to travel to Florida for the funeral. Then in January my paternal grandfather passed away, and I had to take 2 days off for the local services. The family completely understood and were able to make other arrangements. If they aren't understanding and more than willing to give you the time off, then they really aren't people you want to work for. So sorry for what you are going through OP. I know it's very tough. Good luck with your boss. Oh and I would definitely let them know what's going on with your grandfather, so they won't be totally caught off guard.
Thank you for your kind words, I'm sorry about your grandfathers that passed away. That was definitely difficult timing, but I think that's just how it goes in life. I think employers can tell when their nanny is reliable pretty early on, so that's why they were kind to you and hopefully mine will be as well. It's only been a short time but I am always 5 minutes early to work, willing to work late on short notice and help on date nights. Thanks again.
