I'm poster 21:37. I don't think it has to be time and half, just because its an over night. Unless that is your nanny and she's already worked a 40 hour week.

I do think there is a different between needing an over night because you are pushing a human being out of your body and one because you want to get away for the night. I feel if the later, than yes, hourly rate if not time and half.

However, giving birth, it is fair to give her a rated fair. Keep in mind though, unless this person has a connection to you, such as being your nanny, it'll be vary hard for her to give up such a large amount of time for a mere $50.

I absolutely agree with PP. you should charge for your time over nights, and not based on if the kid is sleeping or not. Why should a nanny's time be less valuable at different times of day? When she is on duty, she is on duty. How many other professions are you paid less for working more hours. If people can't "afford" to pay overtime (legal time and a half) for overnights, you simply can't afford the services of a nanny.

I was the on-call person for the family I nanny for when their baby came. Their closest family was 4 hours away. Basically the plane was I'd be charged my normal rate, regardless of the time, as it would balance out with me getting the next week or two off paid.

I feel for any over night, and hourly rate should be paid. I mean, if your kid walks up in the middle of the night and won't go back to sleep, does the nanny suddenly get paid and hourly rate? Or if your kid is chocking is she only suppose to help them 1/2 way, since that's all she's getting paid for? Asleep or not, you paying someone for their time.

Also because it is not a planned thing like a normal overnight would be, as in the night of Sept. 3rd from 11pm-7am. It is whenever it happens and could be a phone call at 4am. It could be someone telling their friends they can't drive to Vegas with them for the weekend just in case the OP goes into labor.
