OP, you did EVERYTHING right here and even got it in writing.

You have every right to go on your trip and if they fire you for it, then so be it.

Four months is a responsible amount of notice they received.

21:10 from yesterday here. I live near Logan Circle and I have a FT live-out nanny. Promise! My point was (as someone noted), it is not easy to find a great nanny. I know there are plenty of people out there looking for nanny positions -- but when you have a great nanny, you ought to think twice about firing her. Will you be able to find someone new on short notice? Yes. Will it be someone you are 100% comfortable leaving your kids with? Probably not.

I guess I am only speaking for myself, but I live in fear that my amazing nanny will leave us! Hence, I treat her well.

OP, enjoy your vacation and best of luck on your interviews. These people suck, and I hope you have better luck with your next family.

Another MB here - Re the last couple of posts, some employers might decide to take their chances and fire her, perhaps not telling her until she comes back, especially if they find a permanent replacement while she's away. Not that this is a sensible way to arrange your childcare, but they don't sound very clever so that's possible. Or they might realise that despite their attempted manipulation/unfairness, they didn't succeed in being entirely unreasonable and should just suck it up and be happy they have a decent nanny who can stick up for herself and who will, if they are lucky, return to work after her vacation.

How many nannies have you had? There are tons of nannies. There are not tons of great nannies.

1. They'll have to pay unemployment.
2. Their child will have to get another primary caregiver.

MB here. Don't ever forget that you have power here. It can be hard to find a nanny, especially at the last minute! My point is: do not let these people bully you because of some misguided belief that they can "just" fire you. It's not that easy. Especially for people who apparently cannot get time off work, even with four months' notice. ( )

I don't know what they can legally do, but this is BS. Go on your vacation, enjoy yourself, and, as soon as you get back, begin to look for other work.
