It would be a different story if it was your commute to work that took an hour long there and back and you didn't realize this at first and it was something that you were not getting paid for your time or for the gas (since you wouldn't be driving the kids at that time).
It just really looks like you are trying to find excuses not to follow through with it now, which is making you look bad. Be careful about that in the future!
