Does anyone know any agencies near there? We don't know the area well and looking for places to rent is proving difficult! We plan to visit at some point before we make the decision to move. It's freezing here in the UK and can't wait to be warm!!
Thanks girls! X

I'm sorry I don't know of any Long Beach agencies but I would try those already suggested - LA County is huge. Long Beach isn't the greatest city but it is close to a number of big-money, beach towns.

It is so beautiful here today. Being an nanny is Southern California is fantastic - you can be outside pretty much every day.

Westside is also up here in SF and so if you did go to LA and use them and decided to change locations, you could stay with the same agency and most likely find a new position before your move up north (if that's what you ended up wanting to do).

Some of the agencies are willing to interview you over Skype before you move but don't count on getting anything more than sporadic weekend or temp jobs until you are settled in the area. Like other posters have said, it is the law that nannies placed by California agencies have to be Trustline certified. Don't let the agencies tell you otherwise.

They don't expect much! You would definitely mAke it into most agencies.

Also, OP, the best agencies don't accept out of state nannies. California might not be the place for you if you're looking onto getting a job ahead of time.

Thank you for the info!! Greatly appreciated.

Work with as many agencies as you can. I worked with several agencies when I worked out there. I ended up with a lot of interviews that way.

I had the best luck with the Elizabeth Rose Agency. Westside is a close second. Living in LA was great in my 20s. I don't regret moving there for a second. Now that I am little older though, I was ready to move on.

I worked with all of the big agencies in LA for my last job search. My opinion is that Westside sucks. They are just like all the other agencies, out to make a placement fee. Some of my friends say they used to be better, but I don't know. The thing about them is that they post all of their jobs on facebook and will only submit you for a job if you express interest. I feel like this is the lazy way to do things. Not every nanny is right for every job and there should be some thought into matching up nannies and families, especially for a placement fee equal to 15-20% of your annual salary. I also know for a fact that Westside (and lots of other LA agencies) is placing nannies NOT registered with Trustline, which is against the law in California.

If you have a college degree my most favorite agency has been Educated Nannies. The owner Ryan is a former nanny and works hard to make great placements. She makes home visits with each family and get an in depth feeling into the family and their needs. She also only sends 3-4 applicants at a time so that families are not overhwhelmed with resumes.

My advice: visit la first and see if you like it. I love it here and wouldn't want to move anytime soon, but obviously some people don't feel the same way. (I will say if you want to find negatives you'll find them, and same with positives.) I am a young nanny in school and make 20+ an hour but rent is also really expensive here. I've worked for amazing families! Look into Westside Nannies. Best agency!

Westside is def the best agency... I was an LA nanny bu now I work in Orange County in newport/ corona del mar. I found m family through deddicated domestics ( not the best) but not horrible either. The job is great but they don't negotiate for you, which I think is sub par. However the area is very wealthy so not too hard to find a $17-25hr job if you ave exp. pp.^^^ care.com is aweful I am glad you had luck on there but It's rare. I would def go with an agency.

The problem with Westside is that I don't live in California currently. I would love to move its a job already in place instead of moving and then applying to the agency. I would be willing to travel for interviews of course but unfortunately one of the qualifications is that you're a resident of California.

Whatever you do, DO NOT take my previous job in Newport Beach. Single mom with three children, the oldest having special needs. Crazy mom and just an all around terrible working environment. There are at least 3-4 full time nannies on staff at all times with a lot of turnover so the job comes available on a regular basis.
