I'm pretty sure that a nanny who posted on an anonymous forum seeking play dates would be fired by her employers before she could read all the responses telling her she was a twit and a bad nanny, and yaddayaddayadda.

And PP, how do you suggest infants and toddlers develop friendships and learn to interact well with other kids if they are not allowed to go to a play group?

(Before anyone tells me that infants can't be friends with each other, you might want to consider the possibility that infants who regularly see each other and play together do actually enjoy the interaction and get excited to see each other. Those friendships deepen as kids grow older too, and it's a pleasure to witness.)

Those posts happen, they just don't get much attention unfortunately. Personally I would love to see more of it. Especially something organizing local playgroups (but I'm sure you take that as me "angling" for outings with nanny friends).


If the post was "Looking for same age 3 year old playmates for my charge in X area" or "My charge is starting preschool in the fall at X, does anyone else have charges starting there so they can make a few friends", you would be viewed as taking initiative to do something in the interest in the child.

Sadly, the posts will just be about nannies meeting up with infants and toddlers too young for anything but parallel play. It will be yet another post about nannies looking out for their interests and entertainment not caring about their job or charge.

I agree. Ironically, people have respect for nannies who do work hard, make themselves a valuable contributor to the household, take initiative, and yes, do household chores. Its the nannies that constantly post about seeing 3 hours of nap time as their surf the web time, want to bring their own laundry to work, want to bring a friend along for the day etc etc that make people not see the nanny profession as anything more than a glorified teenage babysitting position. These are the same posters constantly complaining about their jobs and wondering why they don't make more money.

Its telling that you seldom see posts about how nannies can become better nannies, sharing ideas of interesting projects or things to do other than angling for more outings and trips with other nannies. You don't see posts asking or sharing ideas of healthy recipes for kid's breakfast or lunch you see posts constantly about nannies should be provided with food of their choice. I could on but its pretty clear that most of the nanny posers on this sit take no pride in what they do and are only looking for easy money with as little work as possible.
