But regardless, if you seriously want to argue that this entire genre of literature is worthless, if you can't appreciate the conversations, debates, inventions and ingenuity that stem from science fiction writers, then you either aren't very smart or haven't read enough regardless of your "three" degrees.
Actually, I did NOT leave out 1984 - it's clearly listed in my post. I did leave out A Clockwork Orange because I've never read it and choose not to comment on novels I've never read. And I am NOT trying to argue that the genre is worthless. Clearly, you are still missing the point (regarding the rights of people to have opinions). People can also argue the literary merit of paranormal romance if they choose, but that doesn't mean I HAVE to believe that Twilight is a literary masterpiece. If you choose to believe that anyone who does not share your views is without intelligence, that's your right, though I feel sorry for you, as you obviously have not grasped the point of my post AT ALL and have instead chosen to harp on an example/analogy intended to support THAT point, not to kick off a discussion about genre fiction (BTW, this may shock you, but some critics/scholars believe that most/all genre fiction is without literary merit, a view that I do not share but understand). Not sure why you put "three" in quotes, unless you assume that three is a make-believe number, or that I do not actually have those degrees?
Ah well. I see no reason to argue this further with you, as it is not worth the time. THIS is EXACTLY why I would NOT go on my writers group and call science fiction stupid -- read that again, please - would NOT. THAT was my original post. That I WOULD NOT do so. I wouldn't do it there and see no need to do it here.
If you're still experiencing confusion, though, PLEASE go back and re-read my original post. Substitute "sci-fi" for something YOU personally do not value. Then, perhaps, you will comprehend the initial point. Thanks.
