I didn't tell my MB or DB that my birthday is this weekend. It's in my file, but in no sane world would I expect them to go back and look it up on a whim one day. Also (new poster here), I talk about my week/weekend plans with my bosses and so I might mention that I am getting together with some friends to go out on Saturday night for drinks for my birthday, or perhaps for other occasions like seeing a friend for the first time in 5 years, or my niece's graduation party, etc. The children sometimes ask when my birthday is specifically because THEY like to celebrate things like that with the people they care about, I am not about to lie to the kids about when my birthday is. If I tell them in November it is in March, then later in Feb they usually ask again what day it is and plan something with their parents.

I really do want to know how old you are. No way you're over 24.

Why would that matter? My point is that yes, my bosses acknowledge and care about my birthday and that's OKAY! Whomever chooses not to share that info or have bosses that don't care, that's okay too. Don't shame the nannies who get birthday gifts. It doesn't matter either way.
