There was a classier way to handle the situation than what OP did, to be sure. The issue is that the petty problem - other nanny lying about why she was missing work - is what she ratted her out for, when it was the more serious problems - with reliability, professionalism, and care of the children - that warranted her dismissal. But it is right that the other nanny is no longer employed by the family, it sounds like it wasn't working at all any more.

I think op did the right thing. I'm not a nanny but would point out behavior of my coworkers if it was negatively impacting my job, my bosses job and those we serve.

Some people's FB profile is public obviously. No big mystery there.

Good that op doesn't have to work with this lady anymore - but she just did her self more of a disservice by tattling... Now MB knows your immature :/ I choose to keep any of my cattiness far from my bosses...

Ps, you have her on Fb but you don't disclose any info to her? Not exactly true if your friends on Fb my dear...

I think what you did was wrong and passive aggressive. You should of approached your mb and discussed the issues like a mature adult instead of using this opportunity to be sneaky.

Who cares how the coworker got fired? She seems like she would rather have gone camping than working anyway and now she got that chance, so it's all good.

Not at all. In fact I've never left mb hanging for any amount of time in my 4 years with the family. I just think there's no need to rat a coworker out...it reminds me of little girls who tattle tale. And the next time when you tell a lie to cover something you've done (we all do it on occasion so don't act as though it is beneath you) you'd better hope someone isn't snooping around your life just waiting to "tattle" on you!

I would not consider this situation tattling. The other nanny being unreliable was directly affecting OP. It wasn't like OP knew the other nanny as a friend only and not as a coworker and told the other nanny's boss or similar. Two different scenarios.
