But overall my nanny is terrific. She is loving, responsible, reliable, experienced, honest, fun, engaged, creative, etc... I could focus on the quirky little things that I don't love, or I can focus on the huge, important things that make her a major reason for my children's happiness and health and my family's well-being overall.
If you focus on the negative then that's what you see/think. If you hired someone you value and trust, and he/she does the job you want in a way you want, then you should focus on the big picture. None of us are perfect and I really think the whole focus of this thread (and often this whole forum) is really counter-productive for healthy nanny/boss relationships.

I'm a nanny with a 30 minute (without traffic) commute in Southern California. People here are so unfamiliar with weather that they practically slam on their breaks each time a drop falls out of the sky. Even if I check the weather before I leave the house and leave extra time, I'm often late on rainy days. Obviously it's not OK to be late and she should try to keep on top of the weather, but sometimes traffic jams are out of our control.
I'm also a nanny with a 30 min commute in SoCal. I leave an hour early on rainy days and read in my car if I'm early. It's called being professional, late is not acceptable.

You use paper towels to shower?

Yes. I used to use a loofa mitt but broke out in rash and dermatologist told me to stop using it, and washcloths, because they were laden with nacyeria. Even though I poured boiling water over loofa every week. That was 10 years ago and haven't had a rash since then. Four sheets of Bounty, filded ovrr, makes a great wachcloth.

I wish she'd just be ready to go and then leave when I arrive.
Bitch.
+1. MB here who works full time outside the house. I would never treat my AP this way. She is the person who is caring for my children. I know it is a job, but it is the most important job anyone in my life has. Yes, I love my decompressing time, but that now has to occur before I step through the door. Don't you want to hear how the day was? What your kids did? How they ate? How they behaved? Or -deep breath here- how HER day was?
To go on topic - there is nothing my AP does that rises to the level of annoying me because she is such an amazing AP - and she lives with us.
