No one is going to hire you without your ss#. That's what it's for -- paying your taxes. At what point are they not "strangers?" Two days later when they offer you the job and you have to fill out tax forms?

If you do not submit yours, then they cannot run a full check and may think you don't have one or have something to hide.

This can cost many jobs.


Just say you are not comfortable giving out your ss# but you would be happy to run the search of their choosing on your dime. This way you will have it on file for other jobs too.

God only know what agencies do with your SS number. If you let them have it, make them sign a statement saying what measures they have in place to protect your SS number.
