Oh, get over yourself. 99% of people do not use a credit card. I use mostly cash during the week for gas, groceries, miscellaneous stuff, etc. It helps me keep track of what I spend throughout the week.

PP is correct. Most people do use a credit or debit card. Get with the times.

Which is why so many people are in debt.....

What if I'm the fourth car back? Or the sixth? The baby is often sleeping, so I'm less inclined to drag all the kids in and out of the car. I'm nervous about other parents seeing noticing if I'm too far from the kids in the car.
PP here. I meant to say, 'Well, go ahead and continue to do this, so one day you do get bitched out!' Don't be surprised if t does occur and better yet, don't say you weren't warned about this!

As a nanny, I wouldn't risk it. I have a credit card from the family that I am to use for gas, groceries and outings so I just use that. If I HAD to use cash, I'd take the babies out in their seats (I care for 3 month old twins). To me, it's just not worth the risk.

"A woman pulled up in front where I was eating on the front patio, she turned the car off got out and went to the meter leaving her child in the car. The meter was 5 car lengths behind. Obviously she was gone for less than 5 minutes but child (~1 year old) was sitting in the car alone. She came back grabbed him and went in the bank that was about a car length ahead of her car.

What do you ladies think of this? I was u comfortable because at first I had no idea where she was going, then I saw she was at the meter within sight for me but her child definitely had no clue where she went."

it does not take 5 minutes to feed a meter - it takes 1, tops 2 minutes, so personally i would not have a problehm with this since you are still outside right near the car, not inside a building.

Anonymous wrote:Maybe someone can clarify this more-and as I type this it is almost uncomfortable, but really...if the doors are locked, the car is off and in full view/10 feet away at all times, where is the harm in running in to pay for gas for 90 seconds? Not being snarky, I would really just love a reasonable explanation, aside from just don't do it, because I've been there and not done it, but would it really be so terrible if I did??

Nanny here. This is one of those instances where I believe if it is your own child you can take that risk but, as a nanny, I'm unwilling to take the risk with someone's child. It is very unlikely anything would happen in 2 minutes with the car off and locked and in plain view but they aren't my kids. If they were my kids I'd have no problem doing it.

I was reading this thread earlier then I went to lunch with my charge. I saw a similar situation while put and was wondering what you ladies thought about it. A woman pulled up in front where I was eating on the front patio, she turned the car off got out and went to the meter leaving her child in the car. The meter was 5 car lengths behind. Obviously she was gone for less than 5 minutes but child (~1 year old) was sitting in the car alone. She came back grabbed him and went in the bank that was about a car length ahead of her car.

What do you ladies think of this? I was u comfortable because at first I had no idea where she was going, then I saw she was at the meter within sight for me but her child definitely had no clue where she went. And then I got a little mad because her destination was right there, so she could have taken the child to the meter and the go into the bank with him...

Try to plan ahead from now on OP and get gas when you are not with the kiddos.

I would feel ok doing this with my own children but never with someone else's.

I honestly think I've only paid for gas with cash once in my life, and that was because the credit card machines weren't working at the pump and I was running on fumes. So I honestly ask why pay with cash over card when it causes you the hassle of either bringing the kids in with you or leaving them unsupervised?

A criminal could rob the vehicle if they seen it running and not only your car but your charges will pay for your laziness.

I know it's a hassle and chances are nothing would happen but still, take them with you and keep a constant eye on them like you're paid to do.
