+1 if they're visible and all over I wouldn't hire you. I think it's a disrespect to your body to ink it all up and I don't want my kids thinking we condone doing so. If they want one when they're 18+ and paying their own bills then thats good and well, but until then, not in my house.

Enjoy that bubble you've built, guys.

No bubble, just what I believe and everyone I know believes too. When I see someone full of tattoos, it just screams "trash" to me. Sure if you have one in memory of a family member, that is one thing...but when you have all of them over your arms, legs, back, etc....it just looks so trashy and low class. I would never want any of that on my body. I'm sorry but when you are 80 years old, are you really going to want that skull or heart or dragon, etc. on your body? No.

How do you know what other people will or won't want when they're 80? You don't.

I don't mind if other people have tattoos. It's their body

Tattoos are not for me, but who am I to judge if someone wants to one?

I never said I didn't accept them! I said I wouldn't hire an employee to come to my home who has multiple visible tattoos, because I'm teaching my children that destruction of your body in that way is not acceptable in my home. Me employing a nanny who spends 40 hours or more in my home would contradict the morals I teach to my kids on that subject. I have older kids and they know we don't hate others or think any less of others who do things in a different way than we do, however they know what I will and will not allow in my house.

We will just need to agree to disagree. To each their own. I will forever completely disagree. Tattoos are now the norm with over half of American adults having them. It's crazy to me to hold that against someone. Again, your loss for being closed minded.

Fwiw I don't think of you as any less just because I wouldn't hire you. You may be a great person and a great nanny, but you just wouldn't match with my family and that's ok!

Ah, but I think less of you for being such a bigot.

And yes, I practice this in real life! I work for an amazing family whose children adore me. They are a very important part of my life and I teach them everyday to accept everyone and be kind to people who may be different than them. They live a very privileged life but are never sheltered. And they are amazing kids who will grow into wonderful accepting, well adjusted adults. And I am very proud of that.

I just hope you also would say the same about overweight nannies who were bashed in a previous thread.

Yes, I would actually. I would hire the nanny who was best with my children, was kind and caring, ran an organized household, entertained my kids keeping them active, and fed them a nutritious meal. What a nanny eats on her own time is her business, what a nanny tattoos on her body is her business, her choices are her own. I would want my children to respect all people and accept all people for exactly who they are.

How is that any different from parents saying they don't want to hire an overweight nanny?! Everyone has their preferences and is welcome to hire whomever they want. Just because employment discrimination isn't legal doesn't mean it doesn't happen. And as sad as it is we all make judgments and discriminate over things that are different from our own morals/values/way of life. We all do it. Cut the pc bull crap, and own up to it.

Oh you're so right. Because "everyone" discriminates over superficial crap, we shouldn't speak out against it, look down on it, check our own assumptions and judgments regularly, or address it in any way - we should just let it continue. I refuse to have anyone of East Asian origin in my house because those are not my values and I don't want my kids to think we condone it! NOT IN MY HOUSE.

You keep hitting the nail on the head. In my house I have the right to hire who I want. I also have the right to tell my children what they can and cannot do. In doing so, I'll decide who will be coming over to my house to care for them. I won't always have control over what my children are exposed to, but who comes into my home, I absolutely have a say in.

Do you realize what wakeful morals you are teaching your children or what a judgmental person you sound like?? I guess there really is a match for each family. If you called me for ad interview, and I am a very wonderful qualified nanny, I would never be a good match for a judgemental person as yourself.

Who are you to say my morals are awful? I believe that when you choose to put a tattoo on your body, you are destroying the beautiful skin given to you at birth. That's my view, my opinion, and the moral I do teach to my children. I really don't understand what's so awful about that...but do tell me.

Almost exact same for me!!!
