Jesus H Christ. Can ANYONE spell on this thread?? Nannies, proofread!

Snooty moms love to discriminate against their nannies. They're were screaming bloody murder for segregation and a separate DCUM forum for nannies. They don't like to mix with the "help".

Yep. Another educated, fun, cultural nanny, who has came across the same snotty snob SAHMs at the playground or play group coops. To the 11:20, some of the issues you say SAHMs are not able to discuss with nannies, I disagree. I do go on vacation, I have put my kids through preschool, and there were plenty of medical issues I have experienced with my own kids as well as charges. Some nannies are single, but many of them have husbands and kids. I also cannot see why I couldn't complain that I had a hard day with my charge. I say it to my MB when I do.

I have not had a lot of luck meeting DC Moms. Typically, they will talk to me, but once they realize I'm the nanny and not the mom, it pretty much ends all conversation with them.

Thank you for your contribution. That makes perfect sense! I am glad you replied because it really gave me a new understanding. =)

The reality is that both SAHMs and nannies go to the park more to socialize with other adults more than to arrange playmates for the kids. This is fine as small children are just happy to play. They start form lasting friendships when they are around 3-4 but even then are just happy to play around and with new kids anyway.

I can see where SAHMs and nannies wouldn't mix beyond small talk. The SAHMS spend time talking about being a mom, each other, husbands, kids etc. While the nanny may talk to them about her charges, I expect its not the same sort of conversation. A SAHM can complain about her day or kids but it would be a bad idea for a nanny to complain about her day or charges to a SAHM who would feel compelled to tell the employer. Nannies can't really comment on other parenting topics about the charges (where to go on vacation, which preschool, medical issues) etc.

SAHMS usually help each other out. They can swap watching each other's kids if they need to go to an appointment or run an errand. Nannies would expect to get some extra compensation for this and it wouldn't be appropriate for the nanny to be without a charge and nothing to do while being paid. A SAHM would feel compelled to discuss this with the employer which adds a level of hassle.
