I understand the "no~shoes" policy.
I just got new carpet and it is lightly colored and I want to keep it clean and attractive so I tell my visitors to please take off their shoes.
However, if they are barefoot or not is not really an issue.
I agree your DB and MB are OCD, but it could also be for health reasons.
Since they are demanding socks/slippers, I say they provide them for you.
If you really cannot stand to wear socks, then this might be a true deal-breaker for you all.
I see your side more than theirs however.

OP, I think you're taking it too personally. Obviously these folks are very particular - and it seems like that was really clear in the interviews and in their expressed wishes. So to be "insulted" at this stage seems like you're taking something they would require, regardless of who is coming into their home, and taking it personally.
It sounds like they're being consistent (and certainly within their rights) and you've found them easier to work with in some regards than you expected, but this shoe thing is an issue for you.
Perhaps buying/keeping a pair of shoes/flipflops that you're comfortable with that are for their house, inside only, would be ok w/ them. Or you have to decide that this is something you can't live with and find another position. But if you like them and the job otherwise then couldn't you find a way to not have this be such a big deal?

Honestly, it sounds like MB and DB were upfront about this requirement when you looked at the job -- at least you must have experienced it during the interview.
It doesn't seem unreasonable to me, and if it prevents you from "relaxing" and "relaxing" in their home was a requirement for you you really sholud not have taken the job. With this in mind, yes you are being unreasonable and it doesn't seem like a useful rant at all. Either find a way to deal or go looking for a new job.
