Any idea on where to look for a male nanny? i have an 8 yr old, in PG County, looking for 2-7 3x a week in addition to light cleaning and maybe meal prep. Looking to start in Feb.

This may be wrong, but the way I see it is a nurse is a person that helps a doctor, yes they are often female but nurse does not signify gender. But, nanny to me means a woman that takes care of your kids, a replacement for mom while she works, so I like the word manny because I think nanny IS a feminine title, where nurse and teacher and coach are not.

We have an amazing guy taking care of our kids now. They are 3 (boy) and 6 (girl). Before this we had a couple different ladies and now all I wish is that we had found this guy sooner. The girls did their jobs well enough but didn't seem to have any vested interest in my kids or love for them beyond the scope of their jobs. They focused more on the side chores (making dinner and cleaning up) than my kids. If the kids were having an issue where they needed you to be with them or calm them that should take priority over finishing the dishes.)

The guy we have now seems to just get it. The kids are the priority, he actually plays with them (like not just a board game, but like a brother or a big kid), they laugh and have fun like they never did with the other nannies, they learn new things every day they can't wait to tell me about, and then 99% of the time he gets to the dishes and the rest, but those 1% of times he doesn't I don't even care because they were either on some amazing adventure and ran late or the kids had an issue and he put his focus on them.

I will specifically look for guys from now on, not to exclude the ladies, but will try for a guy first.

I loved having a Manny for my 4 sons when they were young. He was excellent with them, a great role model, able to displine from a place of love. Hes become a trusted family friend and we still see him regularly despot my boys being older now. I say go for it!

There are a lot of mannies in DC, and the families that I know of with them adore them. My kids and I are friends with 2 families personally that have guys that have been with them for years and they pay way above what I would consider market rate. One of them had their manny put in his notice and tell them he was moving out of state and they bumped his salary so high he stayed and that was two years ago.

I have a boy and a girl but if I ever cross paths with a good manny I would not hesitate to hire them and give it a shot.

Yes. I have boys and a male AuPair. I will never go back to women again. No drama and they have a lot of physical energy for nerf wars, sports, games, and basically everything that my boys like.

Our nanny is male. My boys are 9 and 5. Pros: He plays with them like friends. Nerf wars, football, Wii games, battles with little army men. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the stuff they like to talk about. They have a blast together. Cons: Actually, all of the cons I can think of are specific to his personality, not the fact that he is male. So, to answer your question, yes, I have and would again hire a male nanny.

I think if you really knew him, it'd be ok. But I wouldn't hire him off the street.

So true. Sometimes boys that age wants more of a big brother type than a female sitter.
