There is no proof or evidence at all that the Krim's treated Ms. Ortega well/poorly/inhumanely, or that they paid her too much/enough/too little/legally/under the table.

If you all MUST speculate about the deaths of 2 kids, could you at least have the common decency to avoid playing the "blame-the-parents" game for the love of all that is holy?

Let's talk about what happened. Didn't the woman and her employer have some sort of huge argument about something? Has the employer revealed what it was about? I have to say that if I had a "huge" blow up with the nanny, I would have gotten a new nanny. I would not want anyone to be in a job if they were unhappy about it. I suspect that the mom ignored her gut feeling, about doing what she knew she should have done. That's why I say, "ALWAYS" follow your gut. Who cares if you "might" be wrong. You have children to protect.

How is her salary even a factor for some of you? If she were a teacher, or a doctor, or in any other profession charged with the care of children, would we even be bringing it up (as if being underpaid is even close to an excuse for something like this)? It was reported when the crimes first happened that she was definitely LEGAL. That pay seems on the low end for NYC though, coming from a family so wealthy. I would have expected $22-25 for 3 kids. But maybe it was lower because the mother helped out more? I don't know anything about if she had a job and how much she did with her kids, but that could explain the lower pay if she did.

Never been an illegal immigrant, but I have worked jobs where I was paid less than minimum wage and treated horribly. And the thought never crossed my mind to punish their children!! There is no excuse! None.


The thought has never crossed my mind either. If I don't think I am being treated right, then I leave and find something else. I took low paying jobs when I first started out that REALLY were not good pay, I didn't realize that I could have gotten more even with the experience I had at that point (from babysitting and helping my friends out with their kids daily). But it was what I had agreed to and so I learned to ask for more and more benefits once I did move on and had more experience. I would never take something out on the kids that was my fault or something I could fix by leaving. I don't see how you can like kids enough to work with them for your job, and then do something like that. Blows my mind.

I read in an article that she was getting paid $18 or $19 per hour. I know it's higher living in NY but that seems like a decent price for someone like Ortega.. However, she wanted more money and was outraged when they didn't just give it to her. Instead, they said they'd raise her but will add more responsibility and chores.

I know she was legal to work, but I don't know if she was paid legally. I was reported she earned $18 an hour. For 3 kids in NYC is on the medium of the wage spectrum. But even if she was paid $5 bucks an hour, and was illegal - that does not create a murderer!!! This woman was sick in head!
