Thats over $20 an hour OP. I think the family you work with would think you are greedy for wanting more per hour. That's just my opinion.

What? How do you earn $11 an hour? I had calculated it like the PP before your comment at $17/hr. It was actually like $17.66 for that amount at 30 hours, assuming the $530 is weekly and not monthly like the poster that thought it came out to about $4/hr. That is a pretty good rate.

9:07 here. I was under the assumption that the rate was monthly and not hourly, since you wrote 'I work about 30 hours a week and make about $530. Before you judge I know I'm not making a ton of money.'

That was giving me the assumption that you were being paid weekly. Frankly the hourly wage with you residing in Ten is perfectly reasonable.

You can always say something like "I've been looking for something for Tue-Thur and haven't found anything yet, but have seen several advertisements for shares on Mon-Wed. Is that something you'd be interested in? It would reduce your hourly nanny cost by $XX and this is how I'd make it work... If you're interested, I'll pursue it, of not, I won't." I used to be very reticent to bring up the idea of a share but I think more people are interested than you realize but they just don't want to do the leg work or don't know where to start. They may say no, we're not interested, they may say we'll think about it when she's 1, thru may say yes that sounds great. You won't know until you broach the topic.

How are you making $11/hr when you are paid $530 per week for 30 hours? that doesn't make sense OP.
anyway, I think that the best place to start is to ask for a sit-down w/ MB and explain you are having a tough time finding a T/Th job as you planned on doing when you accepted the position originally. Explain that you love them and the job but that working only "PT" was never your plan. Ask if they have any suggestions on other ways to try to find a family (explain what all you h ave been doing to job hunt which hopefully is a good amt). If it were me, I'd offer to send a message out to list serve in the neighborhood or elsewhere.

Another new nanny? Such a lovely childhood.

I wouldn't mind if you asked but I would say no. A five month old does not need a playmate. A nanny share is complicated, you take on liability, its not the same childcare you originally procured and you would only save a few dollars. Upside for the nanny, downside for the family. You're most likely not the only $11 nanny in your area so I wouldn't feel compelled to do something so far outside the original agreement to retain you.

Maybe for you, that'd be a good rate.

But they do take taxes out and i thought it was fair seeing as though i don't drive. I would like to be making a little more so I won't be living on such a tight budget. With the days I work its hard to find a family who only needs Tuesdays and Thursday. Also me charge is reaching the age where I think some time with other babies would be good for her to do. Since I don't drive it's hard to take her out. And no I don't only care about the money I love the family I work with. I just could use a little more.

Odd statement. It's the law to take taxes out. Even if you drove and they took taxes out, it would still be fair. It's also the law to at the very minimum get paid the state hourly wage.

If I were in your shoes, I would seek a position that requires more hours and an actual fair rate. You deserve more than $4 and change an hour, right??? Not a parent, but I would be annoyed if a nanny asked to do a share - if a parent wanted one, they would have done it. Big difference between the two.

If she's working 30 hours a week and making $530 a week, how is that $4 and change an hour? By my math that's over $17/hr, which is actually a pretty great rate for one child.

Clearly, these parents aren't that bright.

A mom of an only child should be pleased to get an opportunity for a regular playmate.
