That may be so, but this is the best job I've ever had. I'm paid more than I was when I worked at a daycare center and I'm treated better as well. I had absolutely no benefits. If you can find me a job that meets those requirements than so be it. I can't, I am happy.


Well if you don't care about it then we certainly don't!.. I'm just glad my employers pay me what I deserve. Now, they truly are the best and I am very happy!


Congrats, I don't live in the DC area. It live in a low come rural area and this is 100X better than working at a daycare center. I never got benefits there either, at least I get paid $12 vs the $7.25 an hour I got at the daycare center I worked out for three years.

I have a similar job and salary as the previous poster. I did insist on getting double time for working on a major holiday when i took the position. MB threw a fit but eventually agreed. We also (there are 4 nannies here) did not receive a Christmas gift, bonus or even a card. I know I get paid well but a simple Christmas card telling me you appreciate all the work I do with your special needs child would have gone a long way.

I am now in the process of looking for a new position. It may take a while but am hoping to find a nicer employer to work for.

I am the "poor little me" PP that doesn't get ANY holiday off, or holiday pay. When I signed my work agreement- it said that paid (regular pay) holidays off are at the discretion of employer. In my naivety, I was thinking "Of course I will get off the big ones!". I was wrong. I then looked at my paycheck, and didn't see 1.5x or 2x extra holiday pay. The payroll company said that my employers do not offer that. Then I thought I would get a sexy big bonus at x-mas, but I didn't get a thing. Everything has been my fault, I understand this. My advice to you ladies is... Don't be like me and just assume your employers know and will go with the industry standard. I make 85k for 70-75 hr week.

No, didn't work on Presidents Day. It's a paid holiday that my employers agreed upon. If they ask me to work on a fed holiday (which hasn't happened yet) they will pay Double Time.

I think you are a bit naive to think that having paid vacation and paid sick days are a "right." While they certainly are nice to have, many jobs do not provide them, particularly those that are paid hourly. PP feels fairly compensated for the work she does. Who are you to lecture her?


I disagree. I believe they are a right at all jobs, including the "many" you reference. PP feels fairly compensated in the paradigm of our outrageous modern society, where class divides have never been greater, and by comparison to former jobs where she was taken advantage of. All of that is fair, PP, and I understand where you're coming from, but daycare workers, nannies, fast food servers - everyone deserves the right to get sick and not worry about how they'll pay their rent. Believe in yourself and your employers will too.

I worked today. I work Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th of July, Columbus Day and so on for no additional pay. MB & DB have off all these holidays. I work 70hrs a week and I am burned out!!!! I do get 2 weeks paid vacation TG! I haven't taken a sick day off, but I think I might need to take a mental health day soon because I am loooosing my mind!!! I have deep resentment, hopefully it doesn't rub off too much on the kids. I'm just tired, really tired. Have no time to look for a better situation. Can't handle been laid off- so I guess I'm stuck. Only me to blame, I know!
