Time to be a grown up & speak for yourself. Chalk up the lost hours & pay to your own mistake and ask ASAP to be paid hourly from here on out. If they won't pay you for the hours you work you can't continue to work extra hours for free. You don't have to ask for time & a half, if your paying taxes (& you should) ask to be paid your regular hourly rate cash for any overtime hours. If you let yourself be taken advantage of it will continue in all areas of your work & life!

You tell them you are not available. If they need you for future vacation coverage, then you tell them they must pay extra for that coverage. Not that hard.

"I will be available only during my regular hours." If you feel like it, you can help them find a sitter.

The kids and I stay home. We do not go on vacation with them.

Then give them a big hug to make them feel better.

Are you a live-in nanny?
Is your complaint about no overtime that they don't pay you time and a half, or that they don't pay you for the extra hours at all?

If you are a live-in nanny, in most states the family is not required to pay you an increased overtime rate, but they are required to pay you for every hour worked.

This is the only way I could see the agency's position making any sense.

Duh, and that's why OP is asking for advice on how to speak to them about it.

Put it in writing to agency about OT. Federal law mandates you are an hourly employee and you are paid Ot for all time over 40 hrs week. In this letter you give dates and amount of OT you are owed and CC the cretins who are using you. Go to local employment commission and report both and file a grievance. Employment will go after them to get your OT. Not being paid properly is a valid reason for quitting and applying for unemployment. Start taking up for yourself.
