I just can't get over the parents who only allow their nannies to take the kids to one park or nowhere at all. How would you like it if you were restricted to your house and ONE park with your kids, all day, every day? If you don't trust your nanny to drive your children to kid friendly places, you should just stick your kids in daycare because you have no business having a nanny.

I don't trust my children 100% with my one nanny I've known for several years, do you think I'd really allow them to go to daycare?

You are insane. I guarantee she's gone the second a better job comes along.

I am a very active nanny and would love to be taking him to the library, park, gym classes (Gymboree or The Little Gym), and a wonderful children's museum which is only 10 minutes from their house. In some ways I understand that they don't want me driving him anywhere but it does really get on my nerves!

It sounds like you are better suited to a job with preschoolers. A 15 month old does not need to go to Little Gym. The parents may be taking to him the children's museum on the weekend. They shouldn't have to stop this so you can do it. If there are not enough good books in the house you can ask the mom if she could go to the library and get more.

I understand how this may be driving you nuts if you are used to using outings as a way to entertain kids. However, there are a hundred things that you can do with a 15 month old that are more age appropriate and enjoyable for this kid than driving around for activities.

Young kids do not need to be driving around to activities. As long as there are enough books, toys, art materials and outdoor spaces like a good backyard and park they are happy. If there are other kids in the neighborhood and park to play with they are very happy.

While the activities that nannies love so much are not harmful for the kids, they really are a crutch for less engaged nannies to break up the day, address her boredom not theirs, and give her a chance to run some errands or socialize with adults.

I have been a nanny to my charge (currently 15 months old) for the last seven months. MB and DB refuse to let me drive him anywhere. They insist that it isn't personal, and that they won't even let the grandparents drive him. There are no parks within walking distance or no activities for us to do outside of the house. I understood when he was younger and I had just started. I understand that it takes time to develop trust in your nanny. We go on walks or play in the yard everyday but there is nowhere to actually go! It drives me crazy. I am a very active nanny and would love to be taking him to the library, park, gym classes (Gymboree or The Little Gym), and a wonderful children's museum which is only 10 minutes from their house. As a live-in nanny for several years, I never wore my pjs while at work, except for when I watched the kids overnight and then it was only at night.

No, they don't need to be going out every single day, but they should be getting some fresh air pretty much every day. It is good for them, the fresh air and sun... It does have an effect on your health. It's not just said so that you get kids out of the house and away from your when you are parents.

Does she take your kids out for walks, etc? I don't care what my nanny wears but I do want her to get DD out of the house for a while most days. Not healthy for kids to be cooped up, even in winter.

That's bizarre. Even though she's a live-in she needs to get up, get dressed, and be a professional. I was a live-in for several years and not once did I spend all day in my pajamas. If we were all sick I may have changed into really comfy clothes for the day, but at least I made an effort to be presentable.

Does she ever take your children anywhere? Is that part of her job? I would hope that she's at least changing if she ever needs to leave the house with the children.

It's time to have a talk with her about professionalism. She's setting a terrible example for your children (unless your children all happen to be infants who aren't focused on what others are wearing). It's perfectly reasonable to ask her to make sure she is getting dressed every morning before she begins her work shift. Comfy clothes are one thing, but pjs are unacceptable IMO.
