How will having her watch it on laptops prevent tantrums?

For some children at age 2 out of sight out of mind still works.
OP's daughter is likely one of these children where if she doesn't see it she probably won't tantrum. No tantrum easier day on nanny.

I'm not luck enough to have one of those children. My son once asked about and had a tantrum because he couldn't see Gymbo.
Gymbo is not in our house. We do nothing Gymboree related outside of Gymboree.
He decided he wanted it and would not accept that Gymbo was not in the house. Good times.
He's now grown out of that and I'm thinking we'll skip Gymboree for #2.

I am guessing that is the nanny/parent's point. There are so many tantrum triggers that you cannot avoid (DS threw a tantrum because the ducks flew away) that trying to stop any triggers that may lead to a tantrum is good.

A no tantrum day is also easier on the child. My kid gets all snotty and gags to the point of vomiting.

You can put a laptop away and out of the child's sight. It's a good idea, actually. When DD is overtired, she will often demand TV which is right there (hanging on the wall in the living room) staring her in the face. She wants it, I refuse, and a huge on-the-floor meltdown begins...

I wish someone (yes, I mean you, Nanny) had suggested something like this. We hired Nanny for her experience. What good is that if she never shares her experience with us?

Brilliant post. Thank you.

Should a nanny want what's best for the child?

Do you mean that there is a nanny out there who doesn't want to plop my kid in front of the TV so she can nap or text?! I never knew such a nanny existed!!!

Imagine that. And others claiming to be parents, recommend firing her.
Unbelievable.

+2 I agree and would add that I don't want a "yes man" either in my home or my work. I would love a nanny who had ideas of her own and thought through problems instead of just dumping them on my lap.

Woman should only speak when spoken to. This nanny over stepped, she way over stepped.

No a nanny should not be a yes person. Yes a nanny should have ideas, but it seems like this nanny wants everything to be a compromise which in my opinion is not good.

What parents don't want to be on the same team with the person caring for your child 8-10 hrs/day? She's thought through the scenario and come up with a way for your planned change in the child's routine not to cause major upset in other parts of the child's day. That's great. That's exactly the kind of exchange I want to have with my child's caregiver.

+3 The current nanny would do anything to find more time to text. I have no clue who she feels the need to stay connected to all day long. It is infuriating. Letting my child watch too much TV is just the tip of the iceberg.

I know people like to rag on us for being lazy and what not, but I am a nanny that has kids that don't watch any TV (not by my doing) and it is glorious. Thinking back over the last decade how mind-numbing it was to watch those kids shows this is the closest thing to heaven I can imagine. It is so much more enjoyable to be engaged with your charge than to watch tv with them. If you still need that physical activity break you can still sit and the couch and play, or do art at a table, or lay on the floor, anything really is better than watching the same stupid show for the 50th time.
