But the appearance of being thin isn't everything - those of you who focus solely on the visible need to keep that in mind.
As an example, in high school, I was pretty lazy, didn't eat all that well, but was a fairly acceptable size - 13/14. Big, but not huge. Within the "normal" range on the BMI charts.
I gained a LOT of weight in the next years. Some due to PCOS, a lot due to poor food choices and lack of exercise. I decided to lose weight (thanks phen-fen for not killing me, BTW!) and actually worked hard to do so. Ate right, worked out daily, etc.
And I lost weight. I was back down to a size 14. It was awesome. Funny thing though? I weighed 50+ lbs. more than I had in high school. I was technically "obese".
But hell, I looked like I was "normal", and that's all that matters, right? The fact that I was in very different states of "health" at exactly the same acceptable size doesn't matter, correct?
Judgement of the visual is a stupid way to go. Human, but still stupid. Maybe a better way to judge is a person can do a job is to ask them to do it for a day or two, and see whether they can manage the physical or not.

Personally, I know I became overweight because of an unhealthy lifestyle. I'm working on changing it but it's going to be a long process. That's ok. But then I look at my mom. She's one of the healthiest eaters I know. She rarely eats junk food and doesn't eat a lot of processed foods. She's fairly active as well. Yet she can't seem to get below a size 12. She has a tummy. It's not because she sits on the couch and eats. For some reason she can't lose the extra weight.
Everyone's body is different.

Did you even read the article?
Microbial treatments were as effective AS THE GASTRIC BYPASS. The microbes affect metabolism and energy expenditure, something you cannot change more than a little bit through exercise. Your gut flora is an enormous component of why you are able to maintain your weight. I get that people want to view themselves as superior because they make certain choices, but consider that other people's bodies don't process sugar/fat/carbs the same way yours does, other people's brains don't react to hunger signals the way yours does, and so on. While one DOES have to make healthy choices to be healthy, it is not the same journey for everyone.
I can't understand this. We understand the people's bodies work differently, right? So why should the body's processing of food be considered universal? This is not just an issue of "willpower."

Dissing skinny nannies isn't going to make the big ones look better. Your not fooling anyone.
Also I don't see any dissing of lifestyle choices to skinny nannies, I only see dissing of the way that the skinny nannies are speaking and calling out those who are not the same size as them.
Anonymous wrote:Obese nannies, please don't try to make others feel sorry for your unhealthy decisions. If someone is truly obese because of a medical problem and that only--meaning they otherwise lead a healthy lifestyle then ok sure, I'm sorry for you. But if you expect me to sympathize with you because you choose to eat junk and not exercise, no. Absolutely not. Everyone is capable of being healthy and active no matter what your resources may consist of. I get it. Gym memberships are expensive. Walking is free.

I eat healthy every day and I work out 5 days a week on top of chasing 2 little one's around all day. You should be ashamed of yourself for being so rude and making such assumptions about someone you don't even know. I figured out something was wrong medically because I am active daily and eat very healthy and went to my doctor and found out I had a problem. I am very upset to have gained all this weight and am really working hard to lose it. It has not changed my ability to care for the children that I take care of 40+ hours a week. Their mother is even aware of what is going on and has been very supportive of my weight loss efforts and has been one of my biggest cheerleaders. I am disgusted with your comments. Everyone saying you do not get fat by being healthy is wrong. Some people get fat by being unhealthy and others such as myself got fat but not through fault of their own. I don't pig out and sit on my butt all day. Some of you really need to think about your judgmental attitude. I am officially done with this board. I know no one cares about that but just figured I would put that out there because a lot of you are ruining these boards for those of us who come here for the right reasons. Please find something better to do with your time and stop being so critical of others. I apologize for any typos or grammatical errors but I'm really to upset to care right now.
Ok. I am the rude judgmental posted that said this. I am aware having issues with thyroid can cause weight issues. I unfortunately started with an idea and ran with it I don't regret what I said except for this one. I am sorry for hurting your feelings. I have never had to deal with weight issues, and for me to lose weigh is easy, but I'm not into to be skinny...I am in it to be healthy, so weight issues just don't really bother, but they do to a lot of other people and I should be more considerate of this. Again, I am sorry for hurting your feelings. As for the ones that plant their behinds on the couch or snack on crap, I don't regret what I said to you!!
