If you don’t care if they replace you earlier than in 5 months, then give the notice as soon as possible.

I told them. Honestly, I’d be happy if they found my replacement earlier. I figured I needed to say it now before summer camp sign ups start ect. Huge burden lifted!!!

You'll get let go or replaced. So as long as you're ok with that - and not being able to collect unemployment because you were the one who gave notice - go ahead

Since you stated that it would be okay if you were let go earlier than five months, I think it would be okay to let them know now.

I think it's great IF you're truly fine being let go early. As that's the most likely scenario.

you can have conversations thought starting now that you want to move on to do something different starting in June so they have a heads up.

I have been with the same family for 3 years. There are things I enjoy about them, but increasingly, the job has become too unpredictable. The amount of coverage they need is growing as the kids get older, and I am always asked to do last-minute things. I can say no, and often do, and am paid for any extra time, but I am just not at all interested in working in this constantly shifting dynamic. I plan to roll off at the end of the school year, before summer hits.

I want to tell the mom now. I want to give her a huge running head start, and honestly, if she finds a better fit between now and June and intends to onboard someone earlier, that would be fine by me. Otherwise, I am OK sticking around until June.

Is 5 months' notice too much? As a parent myself, I think it would be helpful, but then again, I do not know if it would actually muddy the waters or be uncomfortable to have an employee around months after you know they want to leave.
