If you truly would like to keep your Nanny for a full two yrs. then you likely should pay her when your family goes on vacation and most definitely when you arrive home early.

The flip side of guaranteed hours is that the nanny is guaranteeing to hold that availability for your family. Would you be ok if she randomly picked up another sitting job from 3-6pm? Or booked all her personal appointments in that window? Or didn't show up some days because she randomly left town?

I would definitely pay the Nanny for five hrs. on days when you get home prior to 6p since she has set aside that day + time specifically for you.

I would also pay her for the wks. that you go on vacation just as a goodwill gesture if she is a really good, loving Nanny.

I do not know what is the standard norm on this but I wouldn’t want to risk losing an exceptional Nanny for my children.

You should guarantee the hours.
Many, many parents of school age children want approximately those same hours for after school care, so if you don't treat your nanny well she will have no problem finding another job.

We are getting a part time in January for our 1 year old. The hours will from 1-6 pm.
On days when we get home before 6pm or are out of town do we pay the nanny since it’s a part time position?
