Legally, travel time (flights etc) should be compensated. And yes, the hours add up and it's not cheap to travel with your nanny.
Typically my pay looks something like this:
Work 8-11am, family does outings 11-5, work 5-10pm so parents can go out to dinner and fun. This keeps me at 8 hours per day. Travel time is then paid at OT rate and they give me a $75 per day food stipend.
Thank you both for the above responses. I know there are many nannies who travel, and I suppose it's seen as part of the job for certain jobs, but it does seem like a lot to give up your own home/creature comforts to support someone else's vacation. (And trust me I know how hard it is to travel with my family, ha!)
