Yup, this is exactly what we do. Seems to be relatively standard so if you are unsure, I would go with this. I also provide groceries or a credit card for takeout. We have only had sitters / nannies we know well spend the night so we have known they'd exercise discretion with the credit card.

You pay hourly for every hour. She is doing you a huge favor and it is a huge inconvenience to her. She has to sleep with one eye opening in case child/children wake up at night

Legally? You have to pay a live out nanny hourly. Practically? Ask the nanny.

For live in nannies, it’s different.

Hourly till her bedtime then flat rate of $200.

I used to do hourly until 11pm. Then flat rate of $100 for overnight. Hourly kicks in again at 7am unless he wakes up earlier.

Hourly until an hour after he goes to sleep. If he wakes during the nighttime then hourly the whole time.

Nanny will be doing her first overnight. My son usually sleeps from 9pm to 7am.
