I would be annoyed if I had to send an email or text each payday with the amount I was owed, why should I have to do this every week or so?
In all other jobs the employees do not have to regularly remind their employers to pay them on time. That is the responsibility of the employers.

No one in their right mind would stay in employment where they were constantly paid after their scheduled and agreed upon payday.
Because rent, bills, ETC. all have deadlines to be paid by and then late fees accrue.
If your employers pay you late and arrive home late than they should pay late fees.

Coming home late regularly is a good reason to quit this position stat. I would not work for a family that thinks this is acceptable to do.

If you really need this job due to finances then I would talk to your bosses and see if they change.

However I personally would be resentful already about being treated so unfairly thus far.

OP, even though the family pays you for the minutes that they are late (as they should!) you should charge them double the amount per minute.

That is what my daycare did when I used to work at the center.
We charged the parents $1 for every minute they were late.
It really nipped things in the bud really fast.

I’d negotiate to change your hours to 430. Plan on staying until 430 every day. Or just tell yourself you’re work until 430.
When are they supposed to pay you?
My NF paid me with a check too, every Friday morning. They forgot once and the Dad came home early to give it to me so I could get it in the bank before the weekend. This wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me unless we’re talking days late and it’s a regular thing. If you like the kids though and other aspects of the job I’d just say something.

Why does it stress you out when they're late? I had a boss that was perpetually late like yours and I changed my thinking that my end time was actually 5:30, so on the rare occasion he showed up at 5 it was a treat.

The check versus venmo thing is weird. I assume you're being paid under the table/no taxes. How are they late paying you by personal check? Do they mail it to you?

I wouldn't quit over those two issues if I was happy otherwise, but it's your life.

I'd try to negotiate a different ending time. In the DMV it's hard to get anywhere exactly when you say that you will be there.

I have been with my current NF for about 18 mos.
The family is late getting home like 97% of the time.
Like if I am scheduled to get off at 4PM they will come in at like 4:15 or 4:20PM.
My friend says this is okay since they pay me for the extra 15min. but it still stresses me out.

They also pay me in personal check and are oftentimes late paying me.
I have told them I will set up a Venmo account so that they can pay me through that but they have a ton of excuses as to why they haven’t gotten around to doing that yet.

I want to quit over these two issues, would you consider these dealbreakers or should I allow them more time to rectify?
