No nanny in this area would accept $20 per hr. Even nannies with very little experience and no background checks earn at least $22. An au pair might accept $20 per hr but she probably would not have a proper work visa

Some of you are wrong about the cash part unless the person is scared of immigration. People who makes so little, (that was me for 29 years) have to have a tax expense to be able to get money back at tax time. I have always gotten $4-$6k back at tax time after I already barely paid any taxes. I file as HH, have earned income credit, and savers credit if I put money in my Roth.
Being paid in cash, would also lower my social security forever. Happened to me few years as the owner refused to pay by paycheck. Now I have $0 calculated in my benefits.
I understand if someone is afraid because they are illegal, but not being paid on the books, is a bad deal for the employee. I was illegal twice. I had no problem paying taxes and getting paycheck, because I had SS number from long time ago.
Shortly, low income earners cannot get money back from government if they don't file. Nothing illegal about getting that money from them. It's their damn tax code.

It honestly depends on where you’re located and what you’re looking for . A new nanny you’re looking at $22-25hr

A nanny with over 5+ years of experience, clean background check and a degree in child development or related field etc you’re looking more at $30-35hr

$27-$30 depending on the area, the closer to DC proper, the higher. Agencies sometimes could get you $35 per hr with one child, if you also do some hose management duties like light cooking, grocery orders etc

-How many hours per day/week?
-Where are you located?
-Are you paying legally?
-What benefits will you be offering (if any) aside from the standard PTO, paid holidays?
-How much experience do you want the nanny to have?
-Do you need someone who drives?

All - looking for feedback on acceptable going rates for a nanny to look after 1 child (around 1.5 years).
