Do you always get home on time every day?

She hates her job! I travel from Gaithersburg everyday to Spring Valley DC and I'm always early or on time.

We dealt with this for a while. I spoke to the nanny about it, and she acted shocked that I cared. After months of this, we adjusted her start time later. Then lo and behold, she started the same routine again. Still 15 min late every day. I finally spoke to her about it again, and she acted surprised that I cared. We ultimately had to part ways because we said if she couldn’t respect the start time so that we could get to our jobs on time, it wasn’t going to work. When an agency then called us for a reference on her, we explained the tardiness. Agency then refused to work with the nanny. So, clearly neither employers nor agencies accept repeated tardiness in a professional nanny.

Nanny here. I commute from Virginia to DC and the traffic sucks. But I know that so I make sure to leave myself plenty of time. I’m always early . She knows the traffic is bad but on her own time. I understand being late every once in a while, that’s like but all the time is unacceptable. I’d reiterate it one last time and if she is late it’s time to cut ties

Tell her you aren't paying her or she needs to find another job if it keeps happening as your job requires you to be at work at XXX time and you cannot risk losing your job.

I wouldn't pay 15 min extra in the afternoon or even agree for her to stay more to make up for her lateness.

I'd tell her AGAIN and ONE LAST TIME to be on time ... if not I'd find someone else.

We can’t have her leave early in the afternoon so we’d paying an extra 15 minx5 days which would be more overtime than we already pay.

Readjust her start time. Have her start 15 minutes earlier and then maybe she will actually get there on time. If she can’t get there on time it might be time to find a new nanny. Chronic lateness is unacceptable.

Our nanny of several months shows up 10-15 min late every day. We’ve raised the issue several times and her response is always an excuse related to traffic and that she will stay late. She lives 15 minutes away. It’s causes an overall delay to our routine in the morning for the kids getting to school and for us getting to work on time. What’s the best way to fix this?
