Not normal - we pay nanny for 2 weeks off during this time. It’s because we travel. If we were here I would pay her one week off and have her come the other week.

Are they just offering you time off unpaid, and the alternative is to work (and get paid)? Or are they forcing you to not work and not get paid?

Big difference. I see no problem with the former. My employers always expect me in the office 12/26 - 12/31 unless I’m on vacation.

If you are available and they don’t need you then they should pay you.
I’d tell them you’re ok to work that week as you need the pay. Hopefully they’ll let you come in late/leave early.

+1. We give ours four days of paid holidays (24th & 25th, 31st &1st) in December. If we are in town, she works the other 4 days or we pay her if we are out of town. You have guaranteed hours in your contract?

I would n bet have accepted the job and if they sprung it on me, I would quit on the spot.

Absolutely not. Do you have guaranteed hrs? If so it’s paid . I would never agree to this. My bills don’t stop just like theirs don’t . I’d be extremely insulted. Look for a new job

Nannies - how would you feel if you have UNPAID week off between Christmas Eve and New Years Day? I’ve been a nanny for over 15 years and even though I have never worked during this time I always had that week paid. My new families (nanny share) offers it unpaid. I’m not sure how I feel about it?
